OUR STORY
yay
Cyber Valkyries was born out of a simple need: A sense of belonging.

We were filled with excitement when we first entered the world of cybersecurity. I mean... who wouldn't be excited? You get to do all fun stuff in the hundreds of subfields cybersecurity has!
"Now, go on, learn. Learn and accomplish cool things in the field! Become the cool hooded hacker you had always wanted to be!"

"What? You're telling me that you genuinely don't know anything? Are you kidding me? Have you never used a computer in your life? Don't you have a web browser? Haven't you tried reading the documentation of whatever you're trying to learn, or something...? Do you expect to be spoonfed? Do you think this is a game? Do you think this is for fun? Do you think this is a hobby? Tell me you're lazy without telling me you're lazy. Don't ask to be spoonfed. Maybe you're just not trying enough. Maybe the field isn't for you. It is...? Then, go on, learn. Learn if it really is the field for you. Learn, but only learn without a community to support you."

Most of us immediately hit a wall at the start of our journeys. Older, experienced voices dominated most cybersecurity communities available. Many were brilliant, smart, sure, but only a few felt approachable for young, inexperienced girls just starting the field.

It is literally social suicide admitting you don't know anything in the field of cybersecurity. This is also the reason why why a lot of "posers" or "script kiddies" exist in the field. When one can't even admit that they don't know anything without facing judgment, they act all high and mighty to avoid judgment, eventually ending up in a cycle of pretense.

So, in 2024, we had enough and built Cyber Valkyries: a community that started on Discord as a safe hangout space, which then bloomed into a global network hundreds of girls supporting each other. We built the space on empathy, not ego; and we made sure that all curiosity was welcomed, no matter one's background or experience level. Here, there are no "stupid questions," because we've been there, and we know what it's like to feel small in a room full of experts. The valkyries value kindness and patience, so that you can finally feel at home.

Since our initial establishment, we have already empowered girls in cyber all across the globe. We've built a judgement-free community focused on learning and support, reached thousands of girls through our content, and even been recognized by international youth organizations, like Digital4Good.

But we're not stopping there, no! The valkyries are ever growing, and still focused on it's mission of supporting the next generation of female changemakers and making cybersecurity a field accessible to all.
